Responsibilities
- Assist with the management of inmates with mental health concerns in restrictive housing and general population under general supervision of the Major or designee.
- Work closely with mental health and security staff performing day‑to‑day escort and group activities, blending security and clinical duties.
- Document and prepare written reports in accordance with mental health and security guidelines.
- Assist with supervision of inmates by establishing a supportive environment that promotes core SCDC values for inmates with mental health needs.
- Under guidance of a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP), conduct psychoeducational groups and other pro‑social activities that qualify as out‑of‑cell structured time.
- Assist with custody‑related duties: escorting, supervision of recreation and showers, cell checks, suicide watch/constant observation for inmates in inpatient settings, residential mental health housing units, restrictive housing, and general population.
Requirements
- State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements: High school diploma and relevant experience; a bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
- SCDC Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in a human services or criminal justice field.
- Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
