About the role

The Mental Health Court Liaison collaborates with the Behavioral Health and Wellness (BHW) Court at 45th District Court and the Adult Treatment Court (ATC) at the 6th Circuit Court to provide mental health and substance use services to adults with mental illness, intellectual/developmental disabilities, substance use disorders, and/or co-occurring disorders in Oakland County.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts mental health/substance use screenings and assessments for potential participants.
  • Provides a preliminary treatment recommendation for accepted participants.
  • Maintains ongoing case management, monitoring compliance and progress with the treatment plan.
  • Coordinates with treatment providers as needed.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for arranging services such as employment, education, housing, and ancillary services.
  • Identifies and designates primary agencies for mental health services and co-occurring disorders services.
  • Schedules intakes with OCHN’s provider network and communicates program services to the court.
  • Communicates with the court about the timeline for initial screenings and assessments, and the start date of treatment programs.
  • Coordinates with treatment providers for compliance and progress reports.
  • Provides information to the court and participates in treatment team meetings and status review hearings.
  • Arranges substance use disorder treatment services for individuals with co-occurring disorders.
  • Trains team members on screening for mental illness and co-occurring disorders.
  • Shares information on relevant mental health confidentiality and recipient rights laws.
  • Participates in training related to mental health issues and specialty courts.
  • Performs overflow duties for existing initiatives as needed.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a mental health field.
  • Licensed Professional (LP), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) - consideration for limited license with appropriate experience.
  • Three (3) years of experience in social work, human services, criminology, psychology, or related fields.
  • Knowledge of the OCHN system, providers, eligibility criteria, and community referral resources.
  • Knowledge of OCHN provider network and accessing additional community services.
  • Understanding of admission and discharge criteria for treatment programs.
  • Knowledge of DSM-IV TR and DSM-V criteria.
  • Knowledge of Michigan Mental Health Code.
  • Understanding of recipient rights policies.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed principles.
  • Knowledge of LOCUS, CAFAS, CANS, and ASAM requirements.
  • Knowledge of substantial functional limitations.
  • Ability to use basic intervention skills.

Skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, and other relevant software programs.
  • Ability to handle a high volume of relatively complex assignments accurately and timely.
  • Organizational skills to establish office procedures and maintain files and records.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to engage audiences and convey complex information clearly.

Additional Information

Must have available means of transportation to and from OCHN and for required offsite meetings or site visits. Must be available for meetings and events which may occur outside of standard office hours. Work performed primarily in an office environment. Hybrid (onsite/remote) work schedule available. Position is based primarily at the Behavioral Health and Wellness Court but requires travel to the 6th Circuit Court as needed. Available workspace at OCHN in Troy. This position is funded by the State Court Administrative Office (SCAO). This position will be funded to the extent the grant dollars are available.
