Description Summary
Provide direct mental health clinical services to students, conduct outreach programming, and offer professional training to the Simpson College community on various mental health topics. This role also includes consultations to faculty and staff regarding college student mental health.
Essential Job Functions
- Provide counseling and mental health services to students and consultation to members of the Simpson community
- Aid students in developing executive functioning skills and coping mechanisms to handle academic stress
- Engage with students referred through the college's early alert process
- Participate in department projects such as outreach and education initiatives
- Maintain appropriate documentation of services provided
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling
- Licensed as an LISW or LMHC in the state of Iowa, or ability to obtain relevant provisional license (LMSW/t-LMHC) within 3 months of start date
- Comprehensive knowledge of clinical theories, diagnoses, interventions, treatment planning, and therapeutic outcomes
- Ability to demonstrate superior clinical and therapeutic skills and foster positive therapeutic relationships with a diverse student population
- Experience managing a caseload of individual, couples, and group therapy clients
- Rich understanding of social, developmental, and psychological issues and challenges faced by diverse populations of students within a higher education setting
- Maintain all relevant ethical, legal, and professional standards of practice for Social Workers or Mental Health Counselors (as relevant to credentials) in the state of Iowa
