Mental Health Counselor

Job Summary

Responsible for providing direct care to patients with psychiatric disorders; ensuring the safety and well-being of patients; supporting the maintenance of a therapeutic milieu.

Essential Functions

• Aid in the care and treatment of psychiatric, drug, and alcohol patients.
• Advocate for patients who may be vulnerable or need additional support.
• Provide parent/family counseling, including Parent Management Training and Family Systems interventions.
• Adhere to guidelines for patients on special status (e.g., suicide, sexual abuse, AWOL precautions).
• Ensure accurate information is provided on shift-to-shift reports and remain on the unit while incoming shifts are in report.
• Act quickly and efficiently in emergencies.
• Display professional boundaries in relationships with patients at all times.
• Complete and file all documentation as required in a timely manner.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• No experience in lieu of a degree accepted.
• Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - Data Conversion - Various Issuers preferred.
