About the role

PACE Education seeks a Bilingual (Spanish/English) Mental Health Consultant to support our Head Start and Early Head Start programs at least 10 hours/week. The position involves direct clinical intervention for children and families, conducting assessments, developing intervention plans, and supporting classroom teachers and home visitors.

Qualifications

  • Independently licensed clinician with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences
  • Expertise in child and family mental health
  • Acceptable licenses include, but are not limited to: Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, etc.

Services

  • Key Head Start/Early Head Start roles and responsibilities
  • Classroom and home-based observations
  • Developing intervention plans
  • Social support for classroom teachers/home visitors
  • Group, individual staff, and parent education trainings
  • Assisting with special needs children
  • Accessing and utilizing community mental health services
  • Collaborating with other Head Start and Early Head Start service areas
  • Referring children for diagnostic examinations
  • Participating in agency Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings
  • Assisting in developmental screening and assessment
  • Providing training and technical assistance

Duties

  • Complete all activities and paperwork associated with LACOE required mental health assessments, home visits, parent/teacher consults, and classroom observations
  • Provide monthly on-site consultation and/or reflective supervision with families and staff as needed
  • Design and implement program practices in response to identified behavioral and mental health issues
  • Provide group, individual staff, and parent education trainings on mental health related issues
  • Assist in providing special help for children with atypical behavior or development
  • Avoid working with children who have physical causes for emotional or behavioral problems
  • Work in collaboration with other Head Start and Early Head Start service areas to refer children for diagnostic examination
  • Advise and assist in developmental screening and assessment of children and pregnant mothers
  • Provide Training and Technical Assistance for staff and parents on mental health related topics

Special Requirements

  • Pass background checks through LiveScan screening (sex offender registry, child abuse/neglect state registry, criminal history check)
  • Pass health screening (LIC 503) and provide proof of immunizations (Measles, Pertussis, Influenza, and COVID-19)
  • Complete annual professional development in alignment with license requirements and submit documentation annually
