MENTAL HEALTH CLINICIAN - Stevenson Family Health Center

About the role

Provides clinical mental health services to patients and families of all ages within the Institute for Family Health. The scope of practice includes diagnostic assessment, counseling, psychotherapy, brief treatment, behavior modification, crisis intervention, and mental health consultation. The social worker reports to the Regional Director and/or Program Director and collaborates with healthcare team members while exercising independent judgment in delivering care and services.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual, family, and group counseling, crisis intervention, and concrete services.
• Collaborate closely with physicians and other healthcare personnel in patient evaluation and treatment to address social and emotional factors underlying health problems.
• Prepare comprehensive bio-psychosocial evaluations, mental status exams, patient histories, treatment plans, and reports.
• Conduct short- and long-term therapy with appropriate treatment plans, goals, and objectives.
• Supervise social work student interns as needed.
• Educate staff on psychosocial issues related to patient care.
• Identify child welfare issues and coordinate with the Child Protective coordinator for appropriate reporting.
• Document all patient services in medical records and complete encounter forms for visits.
• Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and professional standards, including Article 28 and JCAHO (where applicable).
• Participate in social service quality assurance programs, department meetings, and required staff meetings.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria.

Qualifications

• Licensure in New York State as an LMSW, LCSW, LMHC-D, LMFT, or Psychologist.
• Master’s degree in counseling, clinical psychology from an accredited university, or MSW with New York State Certification.
• NYS license if Clinical Psychologist or Psychiatrist; CSW if MSW.
• Strong diagnostic and clinical skills.
• Willingness to supervise interns and attend required supervisor courses.
• Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations (e.g., HIV, homeless, mentally ill, elderly, children, adolescents).
• Healthcare experience preferred.
• Bilingual (fluent Spanish) preferred.
