Mental Health Clinician II

Non-Exempt, Union position with a 90-day probation period.

About the Program

As the nation’s largest and most experienced provider of LGBT medical and mental health services, we help LGBTQ people lead healthier, happier lives by keeping their minds and bodies well. All services are free or low-cost. We’re also one of the few Federally Qualified Health Centers in the nation with providers who specialize in primary care for LGBTQ people and a research team working to advance care and treatment for our community.

Responsibilities

• Conduct individual, couple, and group counseling services for clients, documenting progress in the client’s record immediately following each session.
• Utilize a short-term model in treatment planning; supervisor concurrence required to extend sessions beyond the short-term protocol.
• Serve on-duty for designated hours each week to handle walk-ins (crisis or non-crisis) and general information or crisis telephone calls. May complete intake for walk-in clients if appropriate.
• Conduct intakes and prepare required documentation.
• Participate in multi-disciplinary Clinical Case Conferences, presenting assigned cases for review.
• Make appropriate referrals to external services or other internal departments (e.g., psychiatric evaluation) and follow up to ensure continuity of care.
• Participate in the Quality Improvement process and meet performance metrics, such as weekly/monthly visit targets.
• Adhere to Utilization Management protocols to ensure timely and appropriate client service.
• Complete all documentation in a timely, legible, and thorough manner; submit client records at the end of each business day and notify supervisor and administrative staff of schedule changes.
• Participate in weekly clinical supervision groups and/or individual supervision.
• Attend mandatory in-service training sessions.
• Assist in coordinating the work of paraprofessional volunteers and Mental Health Clinicians I.
• Contribute to program planning, evaluation, dissemination activities, and training with the supervisor and/or MHS Management Team.
• Participate in staff meetings, planning meetings, and other required meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in social work, marriage and family therapy, or professional clinical counseling.
• Registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences as an Associate in Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Professional Clinical Counseling.
• Preferred: Two years of counseling experience (e.g., social services, child welfare, general counseling, chemical dependency treatment).
• Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with relevant issues.
• Passion for the Center’s mission to improve the lives of LGBTQ people.
• Ability to work as a team member dedicated to serving gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender communities.
• Proven ability to work under direct supervision.
• Non-judgmental and respectful approach to working with LGBTQ individuals or people experiencing emotional and behavioral challenges.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong organizational, detail-oriented, and interpersonal abilities.
• Computer proficiency, including word processing, database operations, spreadsheets, and other software systems.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration statuses, and physical abilities.
• Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are a plus.

Schedule

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 8:00 AM–7:00 PM (may be negotiable). Shift differential premium of $1.75 per hour for hours worked between 6:00 PM–6:00 AM.
