Mental Health Clinician

Responsibilities

• Performs all duties under appropriate clinical supervision, conducting assessments and sessions in accordance with provided training and completing assigned training as scheduled.
• Conducts evaluations and assessments for children, adolescents, and adults using standardized psychological tests to assess intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) or as part of screening and intake requirements for eligibility, psychotherapy, and psychiatric services.
• Administers assessments in compliance with testing requirements for data collection, administration, interpretation (if licensed), and scoring to ensure integrity of results; writes comprehensive summaries aligned with test findings.
• Develops person-centered treatment plans based on individual needs, identifying therapeutic goals in collaboration with persons supported and their families.
• Conducts individual, family, and group therapy sessions on an ongoing or as-needed basis consistent with prescribed treatment plans.
• Evaluates progress and effectiveness of clinical services, documenting outcomes and updating treatment plans to address evolving needs.
• Completes and maintains all clinical documentation and paperwork in appropriate systems contemporaneously and in compliance with laws, regulations, and established processes.
• Monitors electronic communication methods (EHR, email, chat) to provide timely responses for documentation edits, scheduling, clinical, and billing-related inquiries.
• Engages with the clinic mental health team through check-ins, meetings, and clinical supervisions to discuss caseload insights and escalate concerns.
• Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, external providers, and agencies to coordinate services, address inquiries, and facilitate scheduling or documentation needs.
• Participates in the supervision of clinical student interns, including observing sessions, providing feedback, compiling notes, and preparing billing documentation.
• Complies with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, including HIPAA, and cooperates with inspections or investigations.
• Experienced clinicians may assist with clinical trainings, conduct group supervisions, and mentor less experienced staff or new hires.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Current license and registration issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Psychologist; or
• A student, intern, or resident in psychology pursuing a doctoral degree in an NYSED-approved institution, or holder of a current Limited Permit issued by NYSED (or eligibility for one), with documentation authorizing practice at assigned YAI location(s) approved prior to start date; or
• Master’s degree in Psychology or equivalent, with qualifying, continuous employment on or before June 24, 2022, in a program or service regulated, funded, or approved by the Office of Persons with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) or another human services agency, consistent with the “grandparenting” provision defined in Part Y of Chapter 57 of the Laws of 2018.
• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships and collaborate across disciplines.
• Commitment to ethics, integrity, and objectivity in clinical service provision, with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Self-directed, detail-oriented, and highly organized, with strong time management skills to meet billing deadlines and manage competing priorities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word), email management, and electronic systems such as Electronic Health Record (EHR) software.
• Ability to complete required trainings and participate in regular clinical supervisions.
• Ability to report on-site to assigned clinic location(s) in the NYC metropolitan area as required by caseload, including evenings or weekends.
• Ability to meet physical demands of the position, including sitting for extended periods, pushing/pulling, reaching, and moving equipment for session setup.
• Verbal and/or written fluency in a second language preferred (Spanish preferred).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).

Pay

$60,000 per year.
