About the role
This is a responsible professional position with limited administrative and supervisory duties at the unit level. Specific duties include testing, psychological evaluation and diagnostic services as well as counseling assigned patient caseload.
Responsibilities
- Detection of severe mental illness in all inmate interaction.
- Inmate Risk Management.
- General O/P management of severely mental ill and at-risk inmate.
- Process referrals to medical and mental health providers.
- Correct and thorough completion of all types of clinical interviews.
- Completes all daily documentation by the close of business each day.
- Processes releases from CDO.
- Reports OPI and inmate threats to others to security as instructed by Safe Prisons Plan.
- Processes releases from MHO or release from referral to BHF.
- Assessments written based upon balanced clinical judgment.
- Effectively prioritizing job duties while maintaining risk management as a priority.
- Maintains monthly productivity numbers as set by Behavioral Health Management Team.
- Follows all Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) Health Services, ACA, TTUHSC policies and procedures and Outpatient Behavioral Health guidelines.
- The MHC responds positively and professionally to supervision, handling constructive criticism with respect.
- The MHC keeps the supervisor informed of both clinical and non-clinical issues.
- The MHC attends training sessions and reads relevant books to enhance their knowledge and skills, applying the content to practice.
- The MHC uses professional development funds for clinical license renewal.
- Professionally completes other unit specific tasks, including Suicide Prevention Screener and Mental health Chain in reminders.
- Conducts telehealth clinics as assigned by direct Supervisor or Senior Director of Outpatient Services.
- Ensures all Inmate/Patient reminders are accurate.
Requirements
- Education: Master’s degree in psychology or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Licensure: LPC/LPA (Preferred)
Qualifications
- Experience: Experience working with inmates and mental health patients is preferred.
- Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Knowledge: Knowledge of mental health assessment and treatment techniques is required.

Pay
Pay grade minimum: $34.61
Pay grade maximum: $39.42
Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan website at https://app4.ttuhsc.edu/payplan.
