About the role
City St George's Students' Union is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Men's Hockey Coach to lead and develop our Men's Hockey Club during the 2026/27 academic year. The successful candidate will work closely with the student committee, team captain, and Students' Union staff to deliver high-quality coaching that supports both individual player development and team performance. The coach will play a key role in developing the Men's Hockey Club and supporting the team to compete effectively within BUCS competition.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver structured training sessions
- Develop players' technical and tactical understanding
- Support player progression
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and performance-driven team culture
- Assist with squad management, match preparation, and performance review
- Uphold the Students' Union's values and promote participant welfare and inclusion
- Deliver all activity in accordance with relevant health and safety, safeguarding, and governing body requirements
Requirements
- Minimum Level 1 recognised hockey coaching qualification
- Experience coaching players of varying abilities within a club, community, university, or performance environment
- Ability to motivate student-athletes and communicate effectively
- Create an engaging learning environment
Schedule
Training: Monday evenings from 5:30pm–7:00pm at Lee Valley Hockey & Tennis Centre.
Matches: Typically on Wednesdays (BUCS competition). Match-day support may be requested on an ad-hoc basis with separate payment arrangements.
