MEMS Process Engineer

Role Responsibilities

  • Drive post-processing development from specification to final delivery, working autonomously or leading dedicated project teams
  • Identify outsourcing opportunities, prepare technical statements of work, oversee vendor execution, and integrate external deliverables within specification, schedule, and budget constraints
  • Create photolithographic mask layouts and generate GDSII/OASIS files using tools such as KLayout or L-Edit
  • Execute and optimize reactive ion etching (RIE), deep reactive ion etching (DRIE), and wet chemical etches (isotropic/anisotropic)
  • Perform wafer bondings, thermal/chemical debonding, and sacrificial layer release processes
  • Execute wafer dicing (saw/laser), manage kerf clearance and chipping specifications, and oversee die preparation and substrate cleaning
  • Conduct failure analysis and material characterization using SEM, FIB, EDS, and ToF-SIMS
  • Interpret process data and metrology results to diagnose defects and implement corrective actions
  • Apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) methodologies to maintain process stability
  • Manage hazardous materials (including HF and solvents) per safety regulations
  • Maintain detailed process documentation and equipment logs

Key Qualifications

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or related engineering discipline
  • 7+ years hands-on experience in Class 100/1000 cleanroom environments
  • 2+ years in a technical leadership or project lead capacity
  • Demonstrated experience with CMOS device post-processing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient operation of cleanroom equipment: lithography systems, PVD/CVD tools, dry/wet etch stations, wafer bonding tools, dicing equipment
  • Expert-level knowledge of semiconductor process integration
  • Hands-on experience with SEM and advanced analytical instrumentation
  • Working knowledge of Statistical Process Control and DOE methodologies
  • Proficiency with mask layout software (KLayout, L-Edit, or similar)
  • Excellent project management and vendor coordination skills
  • Effective communication across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and collaboratively
