Responsibilities
- Care Management and Service Delivery (80%)
- Plan, facilitate, and oversee “I’m Still Here” programming and daily schedules.
- Provide quality activity programming and maintain positive resident/staff relations.
- Build open, trust-based relationships with residents and their family members; respond promptly and professionally to requests or concerns.
- Review resident concerns/complaints and maintain written records of actions taken.
- Act as community liaison; speak about program services to various audiences and pursue new revenue-generating opportunities and referral sources.
- Attend care conferences as needed and address concerns from Resident/Family Satisfaction Surveys.
- Quality, Compliance, and Risk Management (20%)
- Maintain accurate, complete, and compliant documentation; stay current on licensure, certification, and reimbursement issues.
- Safeguard resident confidentiality and honor personal and property rights.
- Assist the Quality Assurance Committee in ongoing quality-improvement activities and corrective action plans.
- Participate in and monitor clinical assessments of the MDS; develop and oversee written plans of care for each resident.
- Ensure activity progress notes and care plans are informative, descriptive, and reflect resident response to services.
- Keep current through reading, workshops, seminars, and continuing education.
- People Management and Development
- Supervise activities staff; foster a positive work environment that attracts, retains, and motivates employees.
- Interview, select, and orient new direct reports; set and communicate performance expectations.
- Evaluate job performance and provide developmental guidance; document non-compliance and work with HR when needed.
- Participate in the development, planning, scheduling, and monitoring of in-service training, on-the-job training, and orientation programs.
- Ensure adequate staffing coverage for absences or vacancies.
- Respond timely and thoughtfully to questions and work products submitted for review and approval.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in recreation, art therapy, or related field preferred.
- Certification: Current unencumbered designation to practice as a Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist preferred.
- Experience: Two years in long-term care, hospital, or related healthcare setting required; one year supervisory experience preferred.
- Other Requirements:
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record and insurability under professional liability and crime coverage policies.
Working Conditions and Special Requirements
- Physical demands: Sitting up to 8 hours/day; standing up to 8 hours/day; walking up to 8 hours/day; lifting, transferring, pushing or pulling residents/patients and/or equipment/supplies up to 50 pounds; driving up to 4 hours/day.
- Schedule: Work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled.
- Exposure: Occasional exposure to residents/patients with various disease processes; may be exposed to infectious waste, disease, or conditions including AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses; risk category for bloodborne diseases – II.
