About the role
The Memory Care Activity Coordinator position plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for residents by planning, facilitating, and overseeing specialized programming designed to meet their unique needs.
Responsibilities
- Provide quality activity programming to residents.
- Maintain open and trust-building relationships with resident family members, responding professionally and promptly to any requests or concerns.
- Reviews resident concerns/complaints and maintains written records of action taken.
- Acts as community liaison, speaking about program services to various audiences.
- Sets up and oversees the "I'm Still Here" programming and the "FLOW"/schedule of the day.
- Maintains and reviews all charts, notes, and documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with rules, regulations, and standards applicable to program services.
- Keeps informed on licensure, certification, and reimbursement issues to anticipate and implement necessary changes in the facility's practices.
- Maintains the confidentiality of resident information and honors the residents' personal and property rights.
- Assists the Quality Assurance Committee in determining and assuring ongoing quality activities and implementing appropriate plans of action to correct identified deficiencies.
- Develops and oversees written plans of care (preliminary and comprehensive) for each resident and ensures that all activity progress notes (and plans of care) are charted, informative, and descriptive of the services provided and of the resident’s response to the service.
- Keeps abreast of pertinent information through reading, attending workshops, seminars, and continuing education courses.
- Supervises Activities staff.
- Fosters a positive work environment that attracts, retains, and motivates employees.
- Interviews, selects, and/or orients new direct reports.
- Defines, establishes, and promotes performance expectations so direct reports understand and demonstrate excellence through high-quality and consistent performance.
- Evaluates job performance of direct reports in accordance with the company policy and procedure and provides developmental guidance to staff for improved performance and growth.
- Makes sure there is a reasonable and sufficient plan for staffing should a direct report be absent or a direct reporting position be vacant.
- Responds timely and thoughtfully to questions, requests, and work product from departmental staff that has been provided for review and approval.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s degree in recreation, art therapy, or a related field preferred.
- Current unencumbered designation to practice as a Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist preferred.
- Two years experience in a long-term care, hospital, or other related healthcare setting required.
- One year supervisory experience preferred.
Requirements
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Must be insurable under professional liability and crime coverage policies as specified by insurance carrier underwriting standards.
