At Anchorage Digital, we are building the world’s most advanced digital asset platform for institutions to participate in crypto. Anchorage Digital is a crypto platform that enables institutions to participate in digital assets through custody, staking, trading, governance, settlement, and the industry's leading security infrastructure. Home to Anchorage Digital Bank N.A., the first federally chartered crypto bank in the U.S., Anchorage Digital also serves institutions through Anchorage Digital Singapore, Porto by Anchorage Digital, and other offerings.

About the role

As a member of the Custody organization, you are responsible for providing an industry-leading secure custodial and technology service to enable intuitive experiences moving, storing, and interacting with digital assets, smart contracts, or traditional banking rails. Our teams are responsible for the entire custody experience, including the management and transferring of cash, coins and NFTs, staking assets, interacting with on-chain smart contracts, fiat transfers, and institutional platform solutions.

With the evolving landscape of digital threats and an increasing volume of sophisticated attacks by malicious actors, we have a security policy mandating all new hires complete an in-person onboarding process—no exceptions. Security is our foundation, and we prioritize physical identity verification and secure IT setup. While our security and IT logistics require physical presence to protect our infrastructure from sophisticated global threats, this move is equally about our Village culture. We believe that a laptop can be shipped, but our culture cannot.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in task breakdown, estimation, design, implementation, and maintenance of Custody systems.
  • Write, review, test, and document code according to Anchorage's engineering and team standards and practices.
  • Dive deep into complex, ambiguous problems, formulate elegant and practical solutions.
  • Review other developers' code to ensure consistency, reduce errors, and share context across the engineering team.
  • Drive work independently, lead or significantly contribute to medium-to-large projects or processes, usually multi-person interdepartmental or cross-functional projects, including leading from end-to-end with little oversight and coordinating activities of other team members.
  • Break down large projects into smaller tasks, accurately estimate time and scope, articulate options considered, analyze trade-offs, justify and recommend priorities.
  • Foster an efficient deterministic testing culture, with an emphasis on minimizing tech debt.
  • Ensure knowledge is shared among the team and avoid positioning yourself or others as a single point of failure.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally within the team and with other teams at Anchorage Digital.
  • Monitor the development of company objectives and trends that may affect its capacity to succeed.
  • Mentor and guide others on the team within your area of specialization or domain, helping them understand the strategic goals of Anchorage and how their work relates to these.
  • Communicate outside team boundaries to solve problems, network with other teams, and establish positive working relationships in other disciplines and domains.

Requirements

  • Real-world experience building complex distributed systems. We mostly use Go, however languages can be learned. We care more about your engineering skills than any specific language or framework.
  • Enjoy building resilient services that can handle different volumes of work without manual intervention.
  • Prioritize end-user experience and business value over "cool tech".
  • Genuinely care about code quality and test infrastructure.
  • Developed "computer science fundamentals", i.e., concurrency, algorithms, and data structures (Formal CS degree NOT required).
  • Believe software engineering is a team activity and enjoy collaborating every single day, learning from and mentoring others.

Nice to have

  • Experience with applied cryptography.
  • In your mind, the word "crypto" stands for cryptography, not cryptocurrency.
  • Read blockchain protocol white papers for fun and stay up to date with the proliferation of cryptoasset innovations.
  • GraphQL API design and implementation experience.
  • gRPC API design and implementation experience.
  • A background in the finance industry.
