About the role

Provides administrative support to unit-based and hospital-wide clinicians and staff in an inpatient unit, functioning as the liaison between the patient, visitors, and the clinicians. Responsible for organizing priorities, completing tasks on time, managing confidential patient information, and partnering with nursing to coordinate day-to-day patient flow, including communication regarding patient admissions, discharges, and transfers. Provides outstanding service for every customer interaction. Duties may vary by department.

Responsibilities

  • Performs clerical and other duties to assist in the general administration of the floor or unit.
  • Greets and interacts with patients, families, visitors, and coworkers in person and via communication tools in a professional manner.
  • Receives, prioritizes, organizes, and manages information at the central nursing station and throughout the unit.
  • Schedules consultations, tests, procedures, and patient transport to other departments.
  • Enters accurate and timely information about admissions, discharges, and transfers into the electronic medical record to facilitate efficient patient throughput.
  • Contacts ancillary service departments to obtain equipment, services, and supplies; tracks status and location; uses designated process for identifying and facilitating repairs.
  • May assist manager with payroll duties, scheduling of staff, or supervision of unit secretaries.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's Degree in a related field of study preferred.
  • Administrative support experience: 1-2 years required.
  • Certified Health Unit Coordinator (NAHUC) preferred.

Skills

  • Proficiency with office procedures and equipment (filing, copying, scanning, printing, faxing).
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Ability to proofread and edit written documents.
  • Ability to use phone systems.
  • Time management skills for self and others.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.

Pay

$18.58 - $26.58/hour.

Schedule

  • Per Diem (on-call/as-needed basis).
  • Rotating shifts.
  • Onsite at 75 Francis Street.
