Medication History Pharmacy Technician (PRN)

Purpose & Scope

The medication history technician (MHT) is responsible for accurately obtaining and entering current patient medications and allergies into the hospital's electronic medical record for utilization by the physicians responsible for admitting and discharging the patient from the hospital. The MHT is also responsible for relaying or escalating any medication related issues that they cannot address to the pharmacist and/or physician. This position also performs limited medication management and distribution duties.

About the Role

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, two years of retail or hospital pharmacy experience, and one year of computer experience. A license as a Certified Pharmacy Technician by the Virginia Department of Health Professions is required, along with certification as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with commonly prescribed medications, brand/generic names, use, doses, frequencies, and dosage forms is required.
  • Must have excellent computer skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work under pressure with other healthcare professionals.
  • Must be able to handle difficult patient and family situations commonly seen in the acute care setting, including ED.
  • Must directly interact with patients presenting with acute illness, with competence and compassion.

Skills
