About the role
The Medication Assistant (MA) provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living support under the supervision of a charge nurse.
Responsibilities
- Assist with bathing, grooming, dressing, vital signs, psycho-social support, transfers, range of motion exercises, and meal assistance to promote residents' well-being
- Administer prescribed medications within scope of practice
- Document care activities and communicate resident condition changes
- Collect vital signs and non-invasive specimens
- Support housekeeping, laundry, wellness, and recreational activities, encouraging resident participation
- Participate in departmental committees as needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Minimum age 18 preferred
- Prior clinical or long-term care experience is advantageous
- Must complete annual competency testing
- Maintain continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours/year)
- Certification requirements vary by state, including CNA and medication aide certifications, with ongoing certification maintenance
- Valid driver’s license and auto insurance may be required, depending on location
