Medication Aide/CNA

About the Role

Responsible for providing direct resident care and supervision of residents' needs per individualized service/care plan. Monitors residents for changes in condition and signs/symptoms of illness according to federal and state laws, regulations, and community policies. Communicates and documents resident changes or concerns to the Health Services Director. Assists in the supervision of resident assistants.

Responsibilities

• Assist residents with medications as ordered by their physician(s).
• Documents all functions related to medication management as required by regulation and community protocols.
• Obtains, receives, and stores medication(s) from the pharmacy.
• Participates in the medication training program and demonstrates competency per the competency checklist.
• Maintains order and cleanliness in the medication storage area.
• Assist residents with daily bath, dressing, grooming, dental care, bowel and bladder functions, preparation for activities, reminders of medical appointments, and basic room care.
• Perform functions as directed by supervisor, including daily and ongoing records such as vital signs, weight, and measurements; observe and report presence of skin breakdowns; review care plans daily; report changes in resident conditions to supervisor; record all necessary charting entries; and report all accidents and incidents.
• Prepare residents for meals and snacks and perform after-meal resident care.
• Maintain resident confidentiality; treat residents with kindness, dignity, and respect; know and comply with Residents’ Rights rules; promptly report all resident complaints, accidents, and incidents to supervisor.
• Assist as directed in proper admission, transfer, and discharge of residents; inventory resident possessions; and report defective equipment to administration.
• Understand and use Universal Precautions; follow established infection control, hazardous communication, and other safety rules; ensure cleanliness of assigned residents’ rooms; properly maintain and record resident restraints; promptly report all violations of safety and sanitation rules to supervisor.
• Attend and participate in orientation, training, educational activities, and staff meetings.
• Perform any other tasks, assignments, projects, or requests as deemed by management.

• Display ability and willingness to learn new skills and to teach others.
• Interact in a professional manner with residents, the public, and co-workers.
• Work cooperatively with management and assist co-workers when the situation requires.
• Adequate and clear English speaking and writing ability; able to communicate effectively.
• Ability to spend long periods on feet and to ambulate quickly.
• Free of non-treated communicable disease.
• Ability to work safely and recognize potentially dangerous situations.
• Willingness to follow all policies and procedures.
• Neat, accurate, dependable, and keep work/space clean.
• Ability and willingness to work longer than an eight-hour shift, holidays, or overtime, and to work a seven-day schedule.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 35 pounds regularly.
• Routinely requires pushing, pulling, bending, walking, reaching, and stooping.
• Must be able to squat, reach, stretch without distress.
• Must be able to tolerate extended periods of walking and standing.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Qualified Medication Aide program with a current license.
• 18–24 months of experience in a similar position.
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
• Twelve (12) plus years of education preferred.
• Attendance at mandatory in-service training.
• Maintain CPR/First Aid Certification.
• Meet in-service training hours required for job classification and position.
