Responsibilities
- Accurately and safely prepare, administer, and document oral and/or topical medications as ordered by the attending physician, per state and federal guidelines.
- Adhere to the 5 rights of medication administration (right resident, right medication, right dose, right route, right time).
- Observe and document medication administration, including any refusals, omissions, or errors, and promptly notify the Charge Nurse.
- Monitor medication supply levels and coordinate with the Charge Nurse to ensure adequate stock is maintained.
- Adhere to controlled substances, narcotic recordkeeping, and medication destruction requirements per state and federal guidelines.
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) and provide CNA-level care as needed and directed.
- Participate in quality assurance and process improvement activities as requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Charge Nurse or Director of Nursing.
Requirements
- Current Medication Aide Certification and Nursing Assistant Certification in the state of practice.
- Strong attention to detail with accurate medication preparation and documentation skills.
- Knowledge of facility policies and applicable state regulations governing medication administration.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a nursing team and under the direction of licensed nursing staff.
- Customer service oriented with the ability to work well under pressure.
- Approachable, flexible, and adaptable to change.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems preferred.
