Medical Value Director
About the role
This is a field-based Medical Affairs position focused on scientific exchange and insight generation with external stakeholders, primarily engaging payer and reimbursement audiences (national and regional health plans, PBMs, and Medicaid). The role involves delivering fair-balanced scientific and clinical presentations, supporting payer evidence needs, and enabling reimbursement readiness through the development and maintenance of payer-facing scientific materials. The incumbent will also serve as a resource to company management regarding market dynamics, business development, and client feedback.
Responsibilities
- Establish, manage, and maintain successful relationships with payer stakeholders, including national/regional health plans, PBMs, and Medicaid organizations.
- Deliver, and may develop/design, fair-balanced and objective clinical and scientific presentations to payers in response to unsolicited requests for information on PTC marketed and developing products.
- Support reimbursement readiness by partnering with Market Access and HEOR/RWE to identify payer-relevant evidence gaps and inform real-world evidence (RWE) needs and communication of RWE learnings.
- Tailor scientific communication for payer decision-makers by translating clinical evidence into payer-relevant context (e.g., unmet need, patient selection, endpoints/outcomes of interest, durability, safety profile, and appropriate utilization considerations).
- Capture payer insights (e.g., evidence expectations, medical policy trends, prior authorization/UM themes, access barriers) and communicate synthesized findings to internal stakeholders.
- Lead/coordinate the development and ongoing maintenance of US payer scientific decks and supporting materials, ensuring they remain current with new evidence, payer feedback, and approved messaging.
- Maintain and update Letters of Medical Necessity and supporting templates/resources to reflect evolving payer requirements and clinical practice considerations.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure payer-facing narratives incorporate relevant clinical, RWE, and outcomes evidence (as available and compliant).
- Develop and deliver training and ongoing updates for internal teams on payer decks/materials and payer landscape insights.
- Establish a process for timely dissemination of payer material updates and key payer learnings to relevant internal stakeholders.
- Act as a mentor to junior team members.
Qualifications
- Advanced scientific degrees (PhD, PharmD, MD, DNP, MSN, MS, Registered Dietician, or Genetic Counselor) with 5+ years of experience as a Medical Science Liaison.
- Experience supporting an orphan product and/or previous clinical experience in Inborn Errors of Metabolism, genetics, and/or rare diseases. Experience in Phenylketonuria is preferred.
- Experience supporting high-cost products distributed through a specialty pharmacy requiring extensive coordination with patient access services.
- In-depth, hands-on experience working with KOLs, clinicians, HCPs, and payers to build strategic, long-term partnerships and develop tailored engagement plans.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver high-impact, fair-balanced presentations to payer audiences and translate complex clinical data into payer-relevant scientific communication.
- Strong experience gathering and synthesizing payer insights (plans/PBMs/Medicaid) and communicating implications to cross-functional stakeholders.
- Working understanding of RWE and HEOR concepts and the ability to partner with internal teams to translate evidence into field insights and materials.
- Ability to influence without direct authority.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including scientific/technical writing and presentations, with the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly.
- Demonstrated success in interpreting scientific data and presenting research information to scientists and HCPs.
- Skilled in delivering high-impact presentations to both internal and external stakeholders with confidence.
- Proven experience in developing and conducting engaging and informative training sessions.
- Strong analytical skills to critically evaluate new data, translate findings into effective field strategies, and identify data gaps.
- Excellent planning, organization, and time management skills, including the ability to support and prioritize multiple projects.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, matrixed, team environment.
- Valid driver’s license, personal automobile with active vehicle insurance policy, and ability to travel daily to customer accounts (including overnight travel).
- Daily entry to hospitals and other medical facilities, complying with vendor credentialing policies (e.g., training, background checks, proof of immunization).
Skills

- Excellent understanding of the pharmaceutical delivery process and ability to work compliantly within the industry.
Pay
Expected base salary range: $201,000 - $240,000. The base salary offered will be contingent on assessment of candidate education level, background, and experience relative to the requirements of the position, as well as review of internal equity. In addition to base salary, PTC employees are eligible for short- and long-term incentives.

Schedule
- 50 – 60% travel required (field-based position).
- Overnight travel within and outside the assigned territory, including weekends, may be required.
