About the Role

Performs laboratory tests relevant to the assigned section(s), including quality control testing following established criteria. Responsible for routine and non-routine activities related to laboratory testing and reporting results. Performs moderately difficult to complex tasks and clerical/computer-related activities with supervision dependent on experience and training.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all tests relative to the assigned section(s) following laboratory-approved policies and procedures.
  • Reviews and releases test results, determining specimen acceptability.
  • Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting and corrects or notifies the supervisor immediately.
  • Follows department procedures for reporting STAT or critical results to caregivers.
  • Documents QC failures, instrument/procedural calibrations, maintenance, and corrective actions when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
  • Ensures reagents/test kits have received dates, expiration dates, and opened dates (if applicable).
  • Follows all PPE requirements, CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines as described in safety manuals.
  • Knows the location and contents of safety manuals and applicable safety equipment.
  • Assists with training department employees as necessary.
  • Maintains clinical competency and professional knowledge by reading relevant journal articles and attending training sessions.
  • Maintains and models REACH Values (Respect, Excellence, Accountability, Compassion, Honor).
  • Demonstrates regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or a related science.
  • Preferred: One (1) year of clinical laboratory experience (new graduates considered).
  • NYS Medical Technologist License (limited permits allowed).

Skills

  • Knowledge of safety and regulatory guidelines.
  • Familiarity with phlebotomy protocols.
  • Significant manual skills, motor coordination, and finger dexterity.

  • Occupational: Significant occupational risk.
  • Physical Effort: Very heavy effort; may exert up to 50 lbs. of force.
  • Physical Environment: Significant exposure to dirt, odors, noise, and human waste.

Pay

Hourly salary range: $36.53 - $67.90.
