Medical Technologist - Point of Care - 32 hrs - Days

Saint Francis Hospital & Medical Center in Hartford, CT is seeking a Certified Medical Technologist to join our mission-driven Laboratory team. Our vision is to provide state-of-the-art healthcare to local communities, creating a positive impact for every individual we serve.

Responsibilities

• Communicate effectively (written and verbal) with administrators, colleagues, and physicians.
• Evaluate requests for new Point-of-Care (POC) testing, including feasibility studies of clinical necessity and cost impact; present findings and cost analysis to Lab administration for approval.
• Establish criteria for vendor bidding and collaborate with Supply Chain Department to develop and negotiate contracts.
• Select and evaluate new POC testing devices for accuracy, precision, cost, and ease of use; submit selected devices for trial use in patient-care areas.
• Provide technical support to patient care areas, including implementation, monitoring, and troubleshooting of malfunctioning analyzers or POC testing devices.
• Participate as a member of the Clinical Laboratory Team; demonstrate flexibility, objectivity, and adaptability.
• Contribute new ideas to improve laboratory operations, policies, and procedures to meet HVMA business goals; participate in assigned projects.
• Provide POC training for patient care providers, including initial instruction and yearly validation; maintain competency records and databases.
• Develop policies and procedures related to POC testing; investigate, procure, and disseminate information regarding manufacturer guidelines, federal, and CAP regulations.
• Promote a continuous learning environment by providing education and guidance to physicians and staff as required; participate in continuing education.
• Establish and monitor quality control/quality assurance (QC/QA) programs for POC testing; ensure compliance with accreditation agencies and federal regulations.
• Spearhead biannual CAP site surveys for POC testing.
• Demonstrate proficiency in the operation and maintenance of lab equipment and computer-based applications (e.g., email, Microsoft Office).
• Exhibit problem-solving, conflict resolution, and positive communication through teamwork.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or clinical laboratory science required.
• ASCP, CLS, or NCA certification required.
• 3-5 years of clinical laboratory experience required.

Skills

• General working knowledge and competence within an open laboratory environment.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; fluency in English (speaking, reading, and writing).
• Comfortable using computer hardware and lab information systems.

Schedule

32 hours per week, Day Shifts (rotating weekends and holidays).
