Responsibilities
- Performs, evaluates, and monitors laboratory tests as authorized within established protocols, selecting and performing additional procedures when indicated.
- Maintains and repairs laboratory equipment and performs calibration and maintenance.
- Evaluates results for clinical significance, validity, and appropriateness and follows prescribed policy in the reporting and notification of test results.
- Monitors workflow and adjusts as necessary to ensure timely completion of tasks.
- Documents quality control and quality assurance procedures and takes corrective action when necessary.
- Ensures proper specimen labeling and collection according to established protocols.
- Provides technical assistance and training to medical laboratory technicians, phlebotomists, and support staff.
- Improves laboratory procedures, policies, and processes to enhance quality and efficiency.
- Supports accreditation standards and regulatory requirements, including CAP, in an acute care setting.
- Participates in proficiency testing and performs specialty testing in areas such as transfusion services, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, histology, coagulation, and flow cytometry.
- Supports critical care departments during high acuity events, including transfusion services, attending codes, testing on irretrievable samples, tissue grinding, gram stains, mass casualty procedures, and mass transfusion procedures.
Requirements
- Licensure, registration, and/or certification: Medical Technologist (MT) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) within 1 year, or Medical Technologist (MT) certification issued by the American Medical Technologists (AMT) within 1 year.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related field.
- Experience: No experience required.
Qualifications
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Frequent lifting up to 10 lbs, occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Sitting, standing, and walking for the majority of the workday.
- Exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, radioactive, and/or infectious agents.
- Exposure to human blood and body fluids.
- Wearing appropriate lab coat, gloves, gowns, and eye and face protection as needed.
- Operating all equipment necessary to perform the job.

Pay
$24.10 - $46.05 per hour.
Schedule
Part-time 2nd shift hours from 2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. with rotating weekends and holidays.
