Medical Technologist I, Part Time, Second Shift, Core Lab

About the Role

UC Health is hiring a part-time Medical Technologist I for the core lab department on the third shift at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. A $4,000 service bonus is offered for this position.

The Medical Technologist I performs routine and complex laboratory analyses, identifies and corrects problems within the scope of training, stays current in laboratory theory and technique, and assumes responsibility for problem solving. This role requires the exercise of independent judgment and interpretation.

Qualifications

• Minimum Required: An associate degree in clinical laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
• Bachelor’s degree in science (biology, chemistry, etc.) preferred.
• MLT(ASCP) certification or equivalent is preferred.
• Laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Engages in population-appropriate communication and has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks.
• Provides clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment and involves them in assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care.
• Identifies physical limitations of patients and deploys necessary interventions.
• Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
• Interprets population-related data and plans care appropriately.
• Identifies and responds to unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms.
• Performs treatments, administers medication, or operates equipment safely.
• Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
• Performs and reports routine and complex laboratory analyses requiring a complex network of steps.
• Uses set protocols, guidelines, and independent judgment to evaluate the credibility and accuracy of test results.
• Performs work efficiently by coordinating testing steps to achieve maximum productivity.
• Operates, maintains, and repairs clinical laboratory equipment within the scope of training, including routine preventive maintenance, reagent preparation, calibrations, and safety checks.
• Keeps appropriate persons informed of instrument problems and resolutions.
• Maintains currency in the field through mandatory competencies, training modules, and continuing education.
• Performs and records all quality control procedures, evaluates results, and implements corrective action when indicated.
• Keeps appropriate persons informed of ongoing problems and their resolution.
• Obtains blood specimens by venipuncture or skin puncture within the scope of training and demonstrated competency.
• Competently accessions, triages, and processes specimens in preparation for testing and transit.
• Evaluates samples for acceptability and follows all safety policies and procedures.
