Gateway Regional Medical Center is seeking a detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Scientist / Technologist to join our laboratory team on the evening shift. This full-time role offers a 4-day work week with 10-hour shifts, allowing you to contribute to critical diagnostic testing while enjoying a balanced schedule.

About the role

As a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist (MT), or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), you will perform a wide range of diagnostic laboratory tests and procedures that directly impact patient care. Your work will support clinical teams in diagnosing, treating, and preventing diseases through accurate data analysis, quality control, and instrumentation maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform accurate, high-quality laboratory testing across key specialties (e.g., chemistry, hematology, blood bank, microbiology) in compliance with hospital and CLIA guidelines.
  • Analyze and interpret complex laboratory results, promptly identifying and reporting critical values to clinical providers.
  • Adhere strictly to established quality control protocols, document equipment maintenance, and maintain full compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Troubleshoot, calibrate, and resolve issues with sophisticated laboratory analyzers and instrumentation.
  • Collaborate effectively with laboratory colleagues, phlebotomists, and nursing staff to ensure safe and efficient sample processing and turnaround times.

Requirements

We welcome both experienced professionals and new graduates to apply. Below are the qualifications for each certification pathway:

For MLT Candidates (Associate Level)

  • Education (one of the following):
    • Associate degree from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program (including chemistry and biology).
    • Associate degree (at least 60 semester hours) including chemistry and biology, plus a 12-month structured curriculum in medical laboratory techniques.
    • Graduation from a military medical laboratory training program of at least 12 months duration.
  • Certification Requirements:
    • Certification eligibility as an MLT (ASCP), MLT (AMT), HEW, or CLS (NCA) required for individuals certified in 2004 or later (registry recommended within 12 months of graduation).
    • Individuals qualified prior to December 31, 2003, are exempt from maintaining yearly certification.

For MT / MLS Candidates (Bachelor Level)

  • Education (one of the following):
    • Baccalaureate degree in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.
    • Completion of an approved ASCP (or equivalent) certification pathway, or satisfied CLIA requirements for HEW certification.
    • Must have completed one year in an accredited laboratory training program.
  • Certification Requirements:
    • Certification eligibility as an MLS (ASCP), MT (AMT), HEW, or CLS (NCA) required for individuals certified in 2004 or later (certification preferred within 12 months of graduation).
    • Individuals qualified prior to December 31, 2003, are exempt from maintaining yearly certification.

Pay

  • Hourly pay range: $20.41 – $38.56 per hour.
  • Generous evening shift differentials to boost take-home pay.

Final pay within the stated range is determined based on factors such as education level (MLT vs. MT/MLS), years of experience, relevant certifications, and specific clinical skills. Compensation packages are reviewed individually with Human Resources to ensure equity and alignment with your qualifications.

Schedule

  • Full-time, 80 hours per pay period.
  • Evening shift, 10-hour shifts (4-day work week).
