Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Performs laboratory testing with CLIA waived, moderate, and high complexity designations.
- Shows proficiency in venipuncture and finger sticks. Results out laboratory testing in a timely manner.
- Aids in interpretation of laboratory results when needed.
- Aids in laboratory inventory including ordering of supplies if needed.
- Rotates on-call every 2-3 weeks as schedule requires.
- Reports critical lab values to the appropriate staff in a timely manner.
- Teaches routine procedures and/or orients staff to laboratory services.
- Keeps knowledgeable of criteria of collection and processing of send out labs.
- Performs proficiency testing, monitors records, and maintains quality control.
- Aids in and reports infection control as needed.
- Maintains and calibrates lab equipment; cleans lab according to OSHA and CLIA regulations.
- Provides test results to requesting clinicians.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve common issues with laboratory analyzers and equipment.
- Reports any complex issues/problems to the laboratory manager/director.
- Recognizes age specific lab values. Incorporates age specific parameters into interpretation of lab values.
- Knows the variety of laboratory procedures applicable to the area(s) of work.
- Knows laboratory equipment, instrumentation, and terminology.
- Thorough knowledge of exposure control and universal precautions.
- Wears PPE as indicated.
- Knows the basic physiological processes being monitored and how medical laboratory science is applied.
- Able to make accurate observations and written reports of test results.
- Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Able to effectively communicate with staff and clients.

Physical Demands
- Regularly required to talk and hear.
- Very active and requires some repetitive motion, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping all day.
- Frequent lifting or moving items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Advanced Orthopedic And Spine Certification Requirements
- One (1) hour of education specific to the Program scope, initially, and at least annually thereafter.
- Possess adaptability to processes as related to up to date best practices, collaboration between departments, compliance with protocols/processes, communication, cooperation, and exceptional customer service.
Regulatory Requirements
- Current license issued by the state of Louisiana as a medical technologist, medical laboratory technician, or equivalent.
- Graduated from an accredited medical laboratory or clinical laboratory training program with an associate's or bachelor's degree.
- At least 1 year of clinical laboratory training or experience in high complexity testing.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
Skills
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Basic computer knowledge.
