About the role

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) plays a crucial role in the diagnostic testing process at Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia, TX. They are responsible for performing routine and complex laboratory tests in areas such as chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and blood banking. The MLT also collaborates with laboratory staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely and effective patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory tests in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, microbiology, urinalysis, and immunohematology
  • Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment according to established protocols
  • Analyze test results for accuracy, identify anomalies, and take corrective action as necessary
  • Document test results and report critical values promptly to appropriate personnel
  • Maintain quality control and quality assurance protocols to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Perform venipuncture and specimen collection as required
  • Absorb and assist in training new laboratory staff and students on laboratory procedures and protocols
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to infection control and safety protocols
  • Communicate effectively with medical staff, patients, and other departments regarding laboratory procedures and test results
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives and continuing education to maintain clinical competencies

Requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must possess an associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Applied Science, Biology, or a related field. Additionally, applicants must hold an ASCP or AMT certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) and have a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Prior clinical laboratory experience in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory setting is preferred but not required.

Pay
