About the role

The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a Medical Technologist to join the Clinical Pathology team at the Animal Health Diagnostic Center. The Medical Technologist I reports to the lab manager and performs comprehensive, routine clinical pathology diagnostic testing on veterinary specimens. Key testing areas include Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, and Urinalysis. This role adheres to AAVLD standards and follows organizational and unit policies and procedures. Additionally, the position involves basic troubleshooting of testing issues and requires a collaborative, supportive team approach to effectively meet service goals.

Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive, routine clinical pathology diagnostic testing on veterinary specimens.
  • Key testing areas include Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, and Urinalysis.
  • Adheres to AAVLD standards and follows organizational and unit policies and procedures.
  • Involves basic troubleshooting of testing issues.
  • Requires a collaborative, supportive team approach to effectively meet service goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or a related biological science discipline with up to two years of laboratory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of diagnostic testing and quality system compliance.
  • Excellent time management and an ability to successfully manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods at workstations and instrumentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Qualifications

  • Pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire.
  • Employees working in the laboratory must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience performing clinical pathology testing.

Pay

This position is $28.61 - $33.25 per hour.

Schedule

This is a full-time three-year term position with potential for extension contingent upon funding and performance. Employees work 39 hours per week. While normal business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, specific schedules may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, University holidays and scheduled breaks.
