As a Medical Technologist I - Blood Bank, you'll use your technical expertise and scientific knowledge to support accurate diagnoses, guide treatment decisions, and help save lives through exceptional laboratory services. Responsibilities

• Deliver accurate and timely testing by performing a full range of laboratory testing and reporting in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
• Analyze, evaluate, and release test results with accuracy and precision.
• Ensure all testing meets regulatory, accreditation, and quality standards.
• Troubleshoot testing issues and resolve unexpected results efficiently.
• Support Blood Bank & Laboratory Operations:
  • Perform quality control, calibration, and instrument maintenance.
  • Collect, process, label, transfer, and refer specimens using approved methodologies.
  • Maintain documentation and communicate findings to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Utilize laboratory and hospital information systems effectively.
• Champion quality and patient safety:
  • Review and evaluate quality control data and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Verify specimen integrity prior to testing.
  • Communicate critical results according to established policies.
  • Participate in proficiency testing, process improvement initiatives, and quality assurance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all hospital, laboratory, safety, and accreditation requirements.
• Contribute to a high-performing team:
  • Collaborate with laboratory staff, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Support staffing needs and departmental goals.
  • Assist with training and education of team members when requested.
  • Help maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service aligned with Mercy's Mission, Values, and Service Standards.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field.
• MLT or MLS certification (or obtained within 6 months of hire), OR completion of a 50-week U.S. Military Medical Laboratory Training Course.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field.
• 3+ years of clinical laboratory experience.
• MT(ASCP) certification or equivalent.
