Responsibilities
- Deliver accurate and timely testing by performing a full range of laboratory testing and reporting in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
- Analyze, evaluate, and release test results with accuracy and precision.
- Ensure all testing meets regulatory, accreditation, and quality standards.
- Troubleshoot testing issues and resolve unexpected results efficiently.
- Support Blood Bank & Laboratory Operations:
- Perform quality control, calibration, and instrument maintenance.
- Collect, process, label, transfer, and refer specimens using approved methodologies.
- Maintain documentation and communicate findings to appropriate stakeholders.
- Utilize laboratory and hospital information systems effectively.
- Champion quality and patient safety:
- Review and evaluate quality control data and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Verify specimen integrity prior to testing.
- Communicate critical results according to established policies.
- Participate in proficiency testing, process improvement initiatives, and quality assurance activities.
- Ensure compliance with all hospital, laboratory, safety, and accreditation requirements.
- Contribute to a high-performing team:
- Collaborate with laboratory staff, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- Support staffing needs and departmental goals.
- Assist with training and education of team members when requested.
- Help maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents.
- Deliver exceptional customer service aligned with Mercy's Mission, Values, and Service Standards.
Requirements
- Associate's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field.
- MLT or MLS certification (or obtained within 6 months of hire), OR completion of a 50-week U.S. Military Medical Laboratory Training Course.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field.
- 3+ years of clinical laboratory experience.
- MT(ASCP) certification or equivalent.
