About the role
The Medical Technologist performs a variety of laboratory tests in microbiology, clinical chemistry, hematology, serology, coagulation, and urinalysis. They also draw blood samples, set up and read cultures, make and read smears, and perform automated tests.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine and special test procedures accurately and promptly.
- Use and maintain a variety of complex instruments and ensure proper inventory levels of reagents.
- Recognize and correct own errors, and assist in developing new methods and techniques.
- Investigate and correct problems, and serve as a troubleshooting resource for other lab personnel.
- Supervise and train new laboratory personnel.
- Rotate between sections and shifts as needed.
- Comply with clinic policies and procedures, including incident reporting and customer service standards.
- Adhere to OSHA guidelines and complete required training.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments in clinical laboratory settings.
- Ability to work independently and under stress.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications
- Must be able to supervise and teach others.
- Must be able to evaluate procedures, equipment, and people (peers and subordinates).
- Must be able to work independently and recognize and identify the causes of problems.
- Must have an in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments and their interrelationships.
