About the role
This job opportunity is for the Laboratory located at our Jack and Sheryl Morris Cancer Center.
Responsibilities
- Perform complex analytical testing on patient specimens with accuracy, precision, and efficiency under the direction of a pathologist
- Confirm abnormal results, institute appropriate follow-up procedures, and correlate findings with patient history, diagnosis, and prior test results
- Produce reliable diagnostic test results in an efficient manner for both stat and routine specimens
- Evaluate, validate, and implement new laboratory techniques, instruments, and procedures as required
- Analyze blood cells by counting and identifying normal and abnormal cells using microscopic techniques and procedures
- Integrate and correlate data generated across multiple laboratory sections, exercising sound judgment in identifying discrepancies and resolving issues
- Follow proper procedures for reporting and documenting test results, including timely communication of critical values
- Analyze and interpret results from laboratory tests, ensuring accuracy and reliability
- Perform and document quality control testing according to established protocols, interpreting results, taking corrective action, and promptly notifying supervisors when results fall outside acceptable limits
- Maintain all QC, QA, calibration, and maintenance records required by accreditation agencies such as CLIA, CAP, JCAHO, CMS, etc
- Ensure proper functioning of analyzers and laboratory equipment by performing calibration, routine and preventive maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, and coordinating repairs
- Maintain laboratory supply inventory by monitoring stock levels
- Adequately handle, identify, and store specimens in accordance with regulatory and safety standards
- Collaborate effectively as a team member within the department, fostering positive communication, cooperation, and quality service delivery
- Train and mentor new staff or students as needed, promoting professionalism, lab excellence, continuous learning and adherence to best practices
- Participate in accreditation readiness, audits, and quality improvement initiatives to strengthen laboratory performance
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in medical technology or related sciences
- Two to three years clinical lab experience
- Preferred ASCP or equivalent certification
