Job Description Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC) at Iowa State University is seeking a skilled and motivated Medical Technologist to join our diagnostic laboratory team. The role involves performing diagnostic tests, evaluating and verifying results, preparing samples, maintaining instruments, training others, and supporting clinical needs.

Position Details

• Full time position
• Location: College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa
• Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00AM – 5:00PM, with rotating 4 hour shift on Saturday (9am - 12pm)

What You Will Do

• Diagnostic Testing: Perform diagnostic testing across various sections, evaluate and interpret results, prepare samples, and enter test orders into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
• Quality Assurance & Instrumentation: Perform daily/weekly instrument maintenance, calibrations, and troubleshooting; conduct and document quality control procedures; maintain a clean, safe, and compliant work environment.
• Training & Collaboration: Train veterinary students, technicians, and new employees; review and assist with data retrieval from LIS; collaborate with clinicians, pathologists, and support teams.
• Operational Support: Monitor and maintain laboratory inventory; support after-hours or rotating shifts as needed.
