Medical Technologist

Responsibilities

• Performs an acceptable productivity level without a significant error rate on a variety of medical technology procedures including but not limited to performing tests on cells and microorganisms in body fluids, examining growth patterns of bacteria and fungus in patient specimens and cultures, analyzing blood and other body fluids, and performing blood compatibility testing.
• Demonstrates initiative in adapting to changes or unusual circumstances, especially those not covered by written or verbal instructions, in a way that promotes cooperation and minimizes disruption to the working environment.
• Aids in the care and maintenance of laboratory work area and furnishings/equipment.
• Coincides with and utilizes time efficiently in an effort to prioritize and organize duties while remaining flexible to meet the needs of the laboratory customers.
• Maintains and inventory of supplies in work areas as necessary to ensure efficient departmental operations and avoid the duplication of energy and services whenever possible.
• Ensures quality is paramount in all aspects of daily functions and work processes to include specimen preparation, assaying, interpretation, and results reporting in compliance with established policies and procedures.
• Performs quality control and instrument check procedures and maintains accurate and complete records of daily activities.
• Combines ethical judgment with technical skill within the policy and legal guidelines of the hospital and laboratory in decision making processes and in the performance of procedures.
• Observes and adheres to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures, and follows all safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards.

Qualifications

• Education - Bachelor's Degree
• Licensure - Licensed in Louisiana as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Generalist (CLS-G) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist – Specialist (CLS-S) with Registry in applicable specialty for department and position.
