Medical Technologist 2, 2nd shift (2:00p -10:30pm)

CORE JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Technologist 2 (H) performs microbiological, molecular biological and immunological tests on body specimens to provide data for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease. Moreover, the incumbent facilitates quality assurance and instrument maintenance.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

• Verifies identification of specimen with physicians’ orders, prepares specimens for testing, and handles all specimens in a safe and careful manner.
• Analyzes results of testing and interprets abnormal or unusual results.
• Researches and prepares all pertinent patient data and refers all data and testing results to pathologists for evaluation and sign-out.
• Calibrates equipment, orders supplies, and maintains inventory of relevant forms and materials.
• Navigates and resolves test inconsistencies and supports laboratory co-workers in resolving similar problems.
• Administers quality-control tests, according to procedure, and maintains appropriate data recording.
• Aids in orienting and training employees on laboratory techniques and operations.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
• Certification and Licensing: Current Florida Medical Technologist License
• Experience: Minimum 2 Years Of Relevant Experience

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

• Follows laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
• Maintains records demonstrating proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
• Adheres to laboratory's quality control policies, documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
• Follows laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
• Identifies problems affecting test performance or reporting of test results and either corrects the problems or notifies supervisors.
• Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
• Documents all regulatory logs, including but not limited to decontamination log, rejection log, Temperature and humidity log, and correcting report log.
• Participates in laboratory compliance activities, including but not limited to Instruments or Method Validation, linearities, inter/intra precision, instruments to instruments comparison, QC troubleshooting/review, or any other performance study assigned.
• Participates in the training or competency of assigned new personnel or students, either undergrad or postgrad.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrates clear and effective verbal communication.
• Exhibits proficient manual dexterity and fine motor skills for handling laboratory instruments and specimens.
• Observes all laboratory safety protocols and maintains a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
• Demonstrates knowledge of hazardous chemical waste management, including: Proper identification and labeling of hazardous materials, appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE), understanding of hazardous waste characteristics, volume generation limits, and accumulation time limits, implementation of spill control and prevention measures, accurate recordkeeping and adherence to regulatory compliance, safe handling, storage, and inspection of hazardous waste containers.
• Maintains a safety-conscious and responsible attitude in all work practices.
