Medical Technician (UHealth Labs Transition)
Core Job Summary
The Medical Technician performs a variety of routine medical technician duties, such as preparing blood, urine, and tissue specimens for analysis. The incumbent also administers prescribed medications to patients and maintains related medical records. Additionally, the Medical Technician verifies identity of patients receiving medication and records name of drug, dosage, and time of administration on specified forms or records. The Medical Technician also takes vital signs and observes patients to detect response to medication. An employee in this position also performs tests on tissue, blood, and body fluids to help physicians diagnose and treat diseases.
Core Job Functions
- Assists with the chemical analyses of body fluids, such as blood and urine, using a microscope or automatic analyzer to detect abnormalities and diseases.
- Enters findings into the appropriate database.
- Sets up, adjusts, maintains, and cleans medical laboratory equipment.
- Observes principles of asepsis when obtaining blood and tissue samples from patients.
- Analyzes the results of tests and experiments to ensure conformity to specifications using special mechanical and electrical devices.
- Cultivates, isolates, and identifies microorganisms for analysis.
- Takes vital signs and observes patients to detect response to medication.
- Performs blood tests for transfusion purposes and performs blood counts.
- Verifies identity of patients receiving medication and records name of drug, dosage, and time of administration on specified forms or records.
- Consults with a pathologist to determine a final diagnosis when abnormal cells are found.
Core Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent/relevant experience, certification or license.
- Experience: Minimum 1 Year Of Relevant Experience Required.
- Certification and Licensing: Current Florida Medical Technician License.
