Responsibilities
- Fulfilling laboratory procedures for specimen collection, handling, and processing, along with test analyses, reporting, and record maintenance.
- Complying with laboratory quality control policies.
- Recording all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance.
- Detecting potential issues affecting test performance or reporting and taking corrective actions or informing the Lab Supervisor.
- Managing laboratory stock ordering, receipt, and distribution as necessary.
- Performing duties according to checklists and understanding all associated checklists.
- Observing safety protocols as outlined by Patient First and OSHA.
- Offering courteous, supportive, and professional customer service.
- Fostering a cooperative and positive work environment.
- Assuming additional tasks as assigned.
- Aged 18 or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with keyboarding.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- One year of clerical experience preferred.
- One year of clinical experience preferred.
- Completion of 60 semester hours from a regionally accredited college, including courses in chemistry, biology, and medical laboratory techniques, or an Associate degree in a relevant field.
- Completion of clinical rotations in microbiology, urinalysis, chemistry, and hematology, or completion of a fifty-week military Medical Laboratory Procedures course meeting the qualifications for the “Medical Laboratory Specialist” enlisted occupational specialty.
- ASCP Registered Medical Technologist (M.T.) or Medical Laboratory Technician (M.L.T.) certification preferred.
- Eligibility for registration as a medical laboratory technician is encouraged.
- Completion of a minimum of 60 semester hours from a regionally accredited college, including courses in chemistry, biology, and medical laboratory techniques, or an Associate degree in a relevant field.
