Overview
Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, Department of Pathology, Fort Cavazos, TX. Fort Cavazos is located in the 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas, near Killeen and Copperas Cove. It was founded in 1942 and is the Army's premier installation for training and deploying heavy forces. The base covers 340 square miles and is the largest active-duty armored post in the U.S. Armed Forces, capable of housing and training two Armored Divisions. The area offers diverse training opportunities and excellent support for Army families.
Responsibilities
- Routinely perform tests of difficult and complex nature routinely.
- Perform start up and shut down procedures.
- Perform daily (or as required) quality control procedures for ensuring the acceptability of all testing systems.
- Evaluate control data to ensure the results are within acceptable norms.
- Perform a wide variety of testing in the areas of STAT/routine hematology, coagulation, chemistry, urinalysis, serology, immunoassays, Blood Bank or microbiology testing.
- Performs Other Duties as Assigned
Qualifications
- US Citizens
- One year of specialized experience which includes performing complex testing in a clinical laboratory setting and maintaining or troubleshooting equipment.
- One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Microbiology.
- A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
- Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or other board or registry deemed comparable by OASD(HA) or their designee as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) is required.
Specialized Experience
Experience performing complex testing in a clinical laboratory setting and maintaining or troubleshooting equipment.
Education
One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Microbiology.
Combination of Education and Experience
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
Certification Requirement
Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or other board or registry deemed comparable by OASD(HA) or their designee as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) is required.
