Location: Salem Hospital, 890 Oak Street SE, Salem, OR 97301Department: Medical Staff ServicesPosition Type: Full Time, 40 hours/week, Exempt, OnsiteSchedule: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday; must be able to accommodate several monthly 6:30 am meetings Your role with usAs the Medical Staff Services Manager, you will lead a highly specialized team responsible for supporting the integrity, compliance, and effectiveness of the medical staff credentialing and privileging process. This role sits at the intersection of healthcare operations, regulatory compliance, physician engagement, and process improvement, making it critical to both organizational success and patient safety. You will oversee the day-to-day operations of Medical Staff Services, ensuring providers are credentialed, privileged, and reappointed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with complex regulatory, accreditation, and governance requirements. As the department's operational expert, you'll serve as a trusted resource for medical staff leaders, physicians, and organizational stakeholders, helping navigate complex situations, interpret standards, and manage risk. What you'll doLead all Medical Staff Services operations related to credentialing, privileging, appointments, reappointments, temporary privileges, and provider enrollment activities.Oversee the accurate and timely processing of provider applications and credentialing workflows.Serve as a subject matter expert on credentialing standards, regulatory requirements, accreditation expectations, and medical staff governance.Review complex credentialing matters and provide guidance regarding eligibility, privileges, adverse findings, and risk-related concerns.Support professional practice evaluation processes and Medical Staff committee operations, including preparation, coordination, documentation, and follow-up activities.Monitor provider data integrity, operational controls, and department performance metrics.Identify operational risks, workload concerns, delays, and process gaps, implementing solutions to improve performance and compliance.Escalate complex, high-risk, or noncompliant situations to appropriate leadership with well-developed recommendations.Lead, coach, develop, and evaluate a team of Medical Staff Coordinators, Credentialing Specialists, Analysts, and other support staff.Establish clear performance expectations, accountability standards, and professional development opportunities.Manage departmental staffing, workload distribution, technology resources, budgets, and operational priorities.Foster a culture of collaboration, respect, customer service, accountability, and continuous improvement.Lead the development, execution, and sustainment of departmental Lean initiatives and A3 strategies.Use data, root cause analysis, and structured problem-solving methodologies to improve processes, eliminate waste, and drive sustainable results.Partner closely with physicians, medical staff leaders, executives, regulatory bodies, and organizational stakeholders to support operational excellence.Ensure department readiness for audits, surveys, accreditation reviews, and regulatory assessments. What we're looking forStrong understanding of healthcare regulatory and accreditation requirements and the ability to interpret and apply complex standards within hospital operations.Experience managing credentialing, privileging, medical staff services, compliance programs, quality initiatives, or related healthcare operations.Demonstrated success leading teams through coaching, performance management, accountability, and professional development.Ability to evaluate complex information, identify risks, make sound decisions, and manage competing priorities with accuracy and attention to detail.Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.Experience utilizing Lean principles, continuous improvement methodologies, A3 thinking, root cause analysis, and data-driven decision-making.Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, executives, medical staff leaders, and operational teams.A self-directed learning mindset with the ability to independently research, interpret, and apply regulatory requirements.A leadership style grounded in humility, collaboration, curiosity, and service.Ability to lead change thoughtfully, build trust with teams, and create an environment where employees feel valued, heard, and engaged.Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to balance strategic priorities and daily operational demands. Required qualificationsBachelor's degree.Must meet at least one of these two experience requirements: 1) Minimum five years of progressively responsible Medical Staff Services experience in an acute-care hospital, including credentialing and privileging, with at least two years of formal supervisory or management experience; 2) Minimum five years of progressively responsible hospital experience in regulatory compliance, accreditation, quality, or a closely related area, including regulatory interpretation, compliance assessment, corrective or improvement actions, with at least two years of formal supervisory or management experience.
