About the role

A Medical Staff Floor Manager, LVT reports directly to the Senior Director, Floor Managers, and oversees 10–12 direct reports. This role blends clinical and operational leadership, combining hands-on Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) duties with oversight of daily hospital operations. You will ensure a seamless, compassionate experience for clients and pets from check-in to check-out, lead by example on the floor, and support medical teams while optimizing staffing, patient flow, and adherence to ASPCA protocols and Fear Free® practices.

As a clinical leader, you will guide medical quality, support patient care, and collaborate with veterinarians and staff to improve outcomes. Operationally, you will monitor key performance indicators, contribute to standard operating procedures, and participate in strategic planning to enhance employee engagement and efficiency. Your leadership will foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing culture through mentorship, coaching, and conflict resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Build strong relationships, provide clear direction, and encourage professional development, including annual performance reviews and disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Develop and implement policies to improve AAH Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Listen to employee concerns and empower problem-solving to create viable solutions.
  • Maintain a high-performing team through training, coaching, and continuous feedback to ensure success.
  • Lead staff in handling adverse client or patient events professionally.
  • Assist in hiring, training, and onboarding to foster a positive, mission-driven work environment.
  • Set clear expectations and performance goals aligned with departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Oversee annual reviews and guide staff in achieving personal and professional growth.
  • Promote and model ASPCA’s core values and behavioral competencies.
  • Mediate employee conflicts and manage disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Drive cultural alignment by reinforcing organizational values across the team.
  • Deliver regular feedback and conduct quarterly one-on-one meetings with direct reports.
  • Maintain adequate staffing levels, assign responsibilities, and direct workflow to maximize productivity.
  • Ensure safety needs are met, including accurate incident reporting and workers’ compensation claims.
  • Assist with direct animal care on the hospital floor at least 50% of the work week.
  • Review and approve schedules, time off, and timecards for the operations team.
  • Perform duties of an AAH Licensed Veterinary Technician as needed.
  • Assist with maintenance of medical equipment and oversight of controlled substance reporting and DEA records.
  • Oversee standards for medical supplies, basic animal care, and blood supply.
  • Lead daily huddles to optimize workflow and evaluate operational systems for innovation and efficiency.
  • Oversee team performance to ensure high standards of care aligned with ASPCA policies and Fear Free® guidelines.
  • Demonstrate organizational agility by taking on additional strategic or operational duties as assigned.
  • Resolve complex issues proactively to uphold organizational reputation and client trust.

Requirements

  • New York State Veterinary Technician License required.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and lead in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexible and tactful in all communications.
  • Self-confident, motivated, and able to interact effectively with employees, clients, and the public.
  • Ability to lift and carry 40-plus pounds repeatedly throughout the day with assistance.
  • Ability to work standing for 10 or more hours.
  • Ability to exemplify ASPCA’s core values and behavioral competencies.

Qualifications

  • Experience managing people preferred.
  • Experience working in a veterinary setting required.
  • At least 1 year of experience in an operational role required.
  • Ability to direct and interact with people fairly and courteously.
  • Experience handling and restraining animals required.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • 1–2 years of supervisory experience, preferably in a busy veterinary practice.

Schedule

Wednesday–Saturday, 9:00 AM–7:00 PM, onsite at our 92nd Street location. This is a full-time position with occasional flexibility, overtime, and weekend/holiday requirements.

Pay

The target hiring range for this role is $92,000–$97,000 annually, with starting pay dependent on education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, and market demands. The maximum hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications. This position is eligible for a signing bonus (external candidates), relocation bonus (non-local residents), and participation in the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
