Medical Screener - Reception Technician (Customer Service)
About the role
Responsible for greeting donors at the plasma collection center and conducting a series of registration procedures to verify donor suitability for the plasma pheresis process.
Responsibilities
- Assists qualified donors in completing the screening process, which includes assessing health history, answering medical questions, and performing health screening procedures like blood pressure, pulse, weight, and temperature.
- Performs finger stick to obtain hematocrit and total protein levels.
- May educate new donors on the use of therapeutic products made from donated plasma, including the screening process, health screening tests, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, and proper nutrition.
- Ensures all donor questions are answered promptly, accurately, and professionally.
- Maintains alertness and awareness during the pheresis process and notifies staff of any reactions.
- Alerts Group Leader or Supervisor of donor flow issues.
- Accurately records donor data in the electronic donor information management system according to SOPs.
- Understands and follows policies and procedures related to hyperimmune programs if applicable.
- Maintains a clean and efficient work environment, ensuring sufficient supplies and forms are available.
- Fulfills all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures.
- Promotes safety in all actions.
- Maintains confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
- May be cross-trained in other areas to meet business needs.
- May be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- May be required to work overtime and extended hours to support center operational needs.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of three (3) months experience in a clerical or customer service related position, preferably in a medical or health provider environment.
- Must be able to perform basic math calculations.
- Ability to understand, remember, and apply oral and/or written instructions.
- Ability to understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines.
- Ability to see and speak with customers and observe equipment operation.
- Occasionally perform tasks while standing and walking up to 100% of time.
- Reach, bend, kneel, and have high level of manual dexterity.
- Occasionally be required to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Frequent exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and bloodborne pathogens.
- Required to wear PPE while performing specific tasks or in certain areas.
- May be cross-trained in other areas to meet business needs.
Skills
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong organizational and attention to detail skills.
- Basic computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
