About the role

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) plays a crucial role in Otsuka’s ecosystem-based customer engagement model. This model focuses on better delivering on patient, caregiver, and healthcare provider needs in an evolving healthcare environment. The MSL engages with Key Influencers, Local Practice Leaders, healthcare providers, and patient groups to improve patient outcomes and align with Otsuka’s patient-centric strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of the ecosystem strategic business plan and identify key stakeholders.
  • Provide clinical, scientific, and health economic information related to CNS disease states and the appropriate utilization of approved Otsuka products.
  • Engage with Key Influencers, Local Practice Leaders, healthcare providers, and patient groups to improve patient care and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with ecosystem partners to customize the region business strategy to meet local ecosystem needs.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the ecosystem to ensure alignment with Otsuka’s patient-centric strategy.
  • Deliver on business objectives that extend beyond the territory and impact the Medical Affairs organization.
  • Build, cultivate, and leverage external relationships to understand evolving healthcare trends, disease states, Otsuka products, and systems.
  • Manage clinical and data-focused training of promotional and disease state speakers.
  • Support Otsuka’s clinical trials program, including registration, post-marketing, and Investigator-Sponsored Trials (ISTs).
  • Collect and submit medical insights to drive decision-making and prioritize evidence generation efforts.
  • Mentor in peer functional and therapeutic development, including new hires.
  • Support other areas of the organization, including Safety & Pharmacovigilance, Sales Training, and medical education.

Requirements

  • MD/DO, PharmD, or PhD in life sciences required.
  • Minimum 2 years relevant experience in pharmaceutical industry Medical Affairs or comparable clinical or research experience.
  • Understanding of the interconnectivity of health systems, overall delivery of patient care, and experience working with healthcare professionals and other decision makers.
  • Previous training or experience in CNS disease is preferred.
  • Strong business acumen; knowledge of the industry, Otsuka’s business model, value proposition, key competitors, and marketplace factors/dynamics.
  • Able to identify solutions with the overall goal of improved patient outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; professional maturity, confidence, and competence.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills; proven ability to achieve conflict resolution effectively and quickly with affected parties.
  • Ability to lead others and project teams strategically.
  • Strong understanding of industry legal, regulatory, and compliance landscape.
  • Ability to work in an ambiguous environment undergoing transformation.

Qualifications

Pay

$150,034.00 - $224,250.00, plus incentive opportunity.

Typically, actual pay will be positioned within the established range, rather than at its minimum or maximum.
