Medical Review Board Ophthalmologist (Nash County)(Temporary)

About the role

The Medical Review Board Ophthalmologist serves in a mission-critical position within the Medical Review Unit of Customer Compliance Services. This unit evaluates medical data of drivers or applicants for driver licenses in North Carolina, focusing on conditions that could affect safe driving.

Responsibilities

• Review vision-related reports submitted by drivers, healthcare providers, or law enforcement.
• Evaluate whether visual conditions meet the minimum standards for driving as outlined in NC Administrative Code and NCDMV policies.
• Provide expert medical opinions and recommendations to assist the Medical Review Board in determining driver licensing eligibility.
• Participate in scheduled board meetings (in-person) to review complex medical cases.
• Provide input on revisions to vision-related medical review criteria and driver safety policies as needed.

Requirements

This position requires:

• A minimum of a Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree from an accredited school.
• At least 3 years of directly related experience in ophthalmology or a related field.

Temporary employees who work an annual average of 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for health insurance coverage under the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP).

Pay

$57.00 per hour (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application)

Schedule

This part-time temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Transportation - DMV and will average 20 hours per work week.
