About the role
Responsible for greeting and registering patients, verifying all patient information and insurance details, collecting co-pays, answering calls, and communicating with other medical employees as needed. This position also schedules patient appointments. This is a part-time, non-exempt role working Saturdays only.
Responsibilities
- Greets and directs patients and visitors.
- Demonstrates a commitment to “World Class Customer Service” and promotes a positive work environment.
- Verifies patient’s appointments and time upon registration.
- Verifies patient’s record is up to date and accurate; makes appropriate changes in computer system and on patient’s records.
- Works closely with billing and scheduling departments for patient insurance verification.
- Collects co-pays, deductibles, and inquires on previous balances.
- Assists with other medical office needs, including scheduling, telephone inquiries, and taking payments.
- Operates a personal computer and appropriate software packages or its equivalent.
- Assists in requests for medical records.
- Meets productivity, quality/accuracy, and collections benchmarks.
- Flexible to work at multiple locations and different shifts as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Skills
- Excellent telephone skills and etiquette.
- Ability to answer phone calls from patients, referring physicians, and staff.
- Uses computer system to verify and update patient demographics; scans materials or copies records to maintain patient files.
- Ability to comply strictly with core values (respect, integrity, compassion, and excellence) with patients, fellow employees, physicians, and vendors.
- Communicates effectively with all departments about patient needs.
- Assists coworkers with all registration tasks and patient needs/requests.
- Maintains a working knowledge of all insurance plans, including collection of co-pay and allowable from patient.
- Demonstrates a pleasant disposition, positive attitude, and the ability to maintain a cordial and professional approach during periods of stress.
- Must be able to multitask in a very busy environment while maintaining attention to detail.

Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- 1+ year of experience working in healthcare (e.g., patient admitting/registration, patient accounting, medical records, physician's office) or completion of a medical billing or medical assistant trade school certificate, or 2+ years of experience working in customer service within a non-healthcare industry.
- Basic computer skills.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently required to sit and regularly required to stand and walk.
- Uses hands to finger, handle, or feel; reaches, pushes, pulls with hands and arms; talks and hears.
- May occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Schedule
Saturdays only, 7:45 AM to 4:00 PM.
