About the role

Lake Butler Hospital is a critical access hospital in North Florida providing 24-hour emergency services, inpatient hospitalization, swing bed program, rehabilitation services, outpatient laboratory, and outpatient radiology (X-ray, ultrasound, and CT scan) services to Union County and the surrounding counties. We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Health Information Management (HIM) Medical Coder to join our team. This is a part-time, on-site position with the potential for remote work after demonstrating proficiency in facility-specific requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assign accurate CPT codes from medical records for billing purposes.
• Ensure proper documentation for charge capture.
• Remain current with industry coding guidelines.
• Demonstrate proficiency in ICD-10-CM and understanding of CPT guidelines for separate procedures, bundling, and add-on codes.
• Review, resolve, and prevent coding denials.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Current certification in ICD-9/CPT-4 coding and ICD-10-CM/PCS.
• At least 2 years of progressive inpatient and outpatient medical coding experience.
• Experience in Rural Health Clinics.

Skills & Knowledge

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with strong computer skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Working knowledge of Health Information Management.
• Thorough knowledge of ICD-9/CPT-4 and ICD-10-CM/PCS coding sets.
• Ability to operate office equipment (fax, copier, computer).
