Medical Records Examiner
About the role
Function as a paraprofessional by overseeing and performing a variety of activities designed to maintain medical records systems at the Carson City Correctional Facility. Work is performed through the application of a body of knowledge related to the methods, practices, procedures, policies, regulations and laws governing medical record creation and use. Services as the senior worker in the medical record department. This position is located inside the secure perimeter of a multi-level prison and the position is subject to drug and alcohol testing.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and perform activities to maintain medical records systems.
- Work through the application of a body of knowledge related to medical record creation and use.
- Perform as the senior worker in the medical record department.
- Directly interact with inmates within the secure perimeter of the facility.
- Subject to drug and alcohol testing.
Requirements
- Education: Possession of an associate's degree in health information or medical record technology.
- Experience:
- Medical Record Examiner 8: No specific type or amount required.
- Medical Record Examiner 9: One year of experience equivalent to a Medical Record Examiner 8.
- Medical Record Examiner E10: Two years of experience equivalent to a Medical Record Examiner, including one year equivalent to a Medical Record Examiner 9.
- Certification: Certified by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Technician or Registered Health Information Administrator.
Qualifications
- Must not have been convicted of a felony or have felony charges pending, in accordance with Public Act 140 of 1996.
Skills
- Knowledge of medical record creation and use.
- Ability to work unsupervised with inmates.
