Responsibilities

  • Scans records into the patient charts.
  • Gathers, processes, and maintains patient medical records.
  • Reports patient information following all health standards.
  • Ensures medical records are maintained in a manner compliant with ethical, legal and regulatory requirements of the medical services system.
  • Schedules patient's appointment with specialist, per Internal Medicine physician request.
  • Verifies patient insurance coverage and follows the insurance company's policies for referral to specialist.
  • Closes referral gaps after receiving outside medical records.
  • Affords assistance to nurses with answering phone calls from physician offices and patients.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
  • Experience: Six (6) months of work experience in a medical office.
  • Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
    • Ability to maintain constant contact with the patient's primary insurance carrier.
    • Ability to adhere to the insurance carrier's policies, procedures, and protocols regarding the referral of the patient to a specialist.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology and medical vocabulary.
    • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite required.
    • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage time.
    • Ability to coordinate care for patients, within and outside providers.
