MEDICAL RECORDS COORDINATOR
About the Role
Assumes administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability for medical record management. Completes and coordinates the follow-up of delinquent medical records, including letters regarding delinquent charts. Prepares statistical, transfer, observation, death, and infant mortality reports as required. Organizes and conducts Medical Record Committee and Medical Record Review Committee meetings.
Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10-CM and CPT coding rules, Joint Commission Standards, CMS and State standards, and Medical Staff Rules and Regulations is essential. Maintains the Master Patient Index, preps and accounts for all discharges, ER, and outpatient records, and analyzes charts according to established procedures. Maintains an ongoing quality improvement monitor and contributes to the effective management of the department.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Working knowledge of office procedures and basic office equipment, including computers
- Experience in medical records preferred
- Accuracy, precision, and attention to detail
- Excellent time management and productivity
- Ability to exercise appropriate and effective judgment and initiative
- Good physical and mental health; ability to work under stressful conditions
