About the role
A Medical Records Clerk ensures all medical records functions are performed in a timely manner, adhering to Marquis Certified Home Care procedures, state/governmental regulations, and payer requirements.
Responsibilities
- Assists in developing and implementing plans to improve the medical records process.
- Ensures all relevant medical records functions are completed within designated timelines.
- Assures adequate copies of documents are available for staff use.
- Assists with special projects such as CHHA mass mailings, audits, and copying.
- Tracks MD orders and follows up with MDs or CHHA staff as needed.
- Sets up new patient records (admission charts).
- Disassembles discharge patient records.
- Reviews records for matching billing and visit data.
- Files and scans clinical documents in the patient electronic record and backup medical record.
- Maintains confidentiality of all information.
- Processes time slips to payroll after verifying visits against the patient schedule.
- Assists with scheduling nursing visits designated for per diem nurses.
- Backs up other agency staff, including answering phones and taking messages.
- Assists supervisory and clinical staff in ensuring proper processing of paperwork.
- Performs other responsibilities as assigned by the Medical Record Coordinator, Quality Clinical Manager, or Director of Patient Services for smooth agency operation.
Requirements
- Strong phone and communication skills.
- Computer knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- General computer and keyboarding skills.
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
