Position Summary
Fraser Eye Care Center is a leading ophthalmology practice dedicated to providing exceptional, patient-centered eye care. We are seeking a Medical Receptionist to join our team. This role involves assisting patients, verifying insurance, scheduling appointments, and maintaining a welcoming environment.
Skills Required
- Welcome and assist patients and visitors with professionalism, warmth, and courtesy.
- Register new patients and update demographic, insurance, and personal information in the practice management system.
- Absorb insurance eligibility and accurately enter insurance information.
- Collect patient copays, balances, and other payments while maintaining accurate payment records.
- Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments.
- Answer high-volume incoming phone calls, route calls appropriately, take detailed messages, and assist callers with scheduling and general inquiries.
- Contact patients regarding appointments, reminders, and other practice communications.
- Scan and upload patient documents into the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Process incoming referrals, medical records requests, and other administrative documentation.
- Run daily and weekly reports as assigned.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and practice policies.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous medical office, ophthalmology, optometry, or healthcare customer service experience preferred.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR), practice management software, and standard computer applications.
- Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable learning and using patient check-in kiosks and other office technology.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to stand for extended periods while performing front desk duties.
- Willingness to rotate between front desk and call center responsibilities.
- Reliable transportation and flexibility to work at multiple Fraser Eye Care Center office locations as needed.
