About the role
The Medical Receptionist plays a crucial role in managing the front desk operations at primary care and community-based health centers, serving diverse age groups including pediatric, adult, geriatric, bariatric, and non-age-specific populations. This position reports directly to the Health Center Administrator.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for all front desk functions in a primary care setting
- Schedule appointments for various age groups and specialty services
- Answer phones and complete managed care referrals
- Obtain pre-certifications as needed
- Enter patient registration data and daily batch encounter forms
- Log referrals in the tracking system and follow up on specialist reports
- Arrange transportation for patients as needed
- Absorb and assist patients as necessary
- Review and complete patient charts and encounter forms
- File reports and charts
- Perform other duties as assigned
PHMC Compliance Responsibilities
- Adhere to PHMC compliance standards, including the Code of Conduct, Whistleblowers, and Conflict of Interest Policies
- Stay updated on relevant federal, state, and PHMC regulations, laws, and policies
- Comply with HIPAA and confidentiality policies and procedures
- Comply with DPH, The Joint Commission, and other accreditation and regulatory agencies' standards
- Adhere to PHMC Policies and Procedures
- Understand and comply with Infection Control and Environment of Care Guidelines and Procedures
Job Requirements
- At least one (1) year of experience in a medical office environment
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Moderate physical demands: standing, walking, sitting, using hands, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting up to 10 lbs., moderate noise exposure, exposure to blood-borne pathogens requiring personal protective equipment
- Moderate work environment: moderate noise (business office with computers and printers, light traffic)
